Cross Program Update 5-6-2021

Cross Program Opportunities

College Open House Monday, May 10th, 5PM – 7PM Eastern Time

Please encourage your current high school students to attend our college open house.  Meet with admissions representatives from IU, IUPUI, Trine, Valparaiso University, and Rose-Hulman.  Meet students from Rose-Hulman, IU, Purdue, and others to learn how they can get involved with FIRST at those institutions.  Students will learn about scholarship opportunities, get advice on how to apply, and leverage their FIRST experience in their application process.  We will be using the highly interactive platform Gather Town.

Share this link with your students – https://gather.town/i/dCQOHERa

Win some swag for your team!  Every student who attends will be entered into a drawing.  The winners will have a swag bag sent to their team from one of our scholarship providers!

Marion County High School Students

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett’s applications are now being accepted for the 2021-22 Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council (MYLC) to amplify youth voice and perspective in this city.  Applications are open now until June 18, 2021, and are in partnership with Leadership Indianapolis, the Marion County Commission on Youth (MCCOY), and the City of Indianapolis, with support provided by the Lilly Endowment.

The MYLC will serve two primary functions:

  • To train young people to become civically engaged now and to build a sense of civic responsibility in them for the future.
  • To provide an advisory group to the Mayor and city government that will keep city leaders connected to the issues of young citizens.

Details on the application process:

  • Completed applications are due by 5:00 pm on Friday, June 18th.
  • Candidates will be notified and invited to interview on June 23rd. Selected students will be notified asked to confirm their interview time within 48 hours (by June 25th).
  • All MYLC interviews will take place June 28th-30th.
  • There will be 25 total members chosen for the MYLC 2021-2022 class and announced on July 2nd.
  • Those not selected will be notified (no later than July 5th)
  • Orientation will take place in July, time TBA.

This council is open to all current sophomore and junior students in your school, program, and/or family. This opportunity is not reserved only for high-achieving students or those in prominent leadership roles already; MCCOY and connected partners hope to find several unsung heroes or quiet leaders who have a passion for making the city a better place. Interested students can apply here by June 18th.

We have some upcoming end-of-season requests, deadlines, etc. for our FRC community.

Using the buttons above, please complete the FRC team survey. (27 / 58 have completed as of today 4-29-21)  If we can get these by May 15th, we would appreciate it.  We will call teams that haven’t completed the survey in order to get at the crucial data we need to inform our sponsors of their impact. Make sure to only have one mentor from each team complete the survey.  Thank you!

Please share the student impact survey link with your students. https://bit.ly/2021FINStudentSurvey

We also need your input on offseason events, that we have learned can begin as soon as July 1st.  In order to best serve our Indiana teams, we need to know if your team can participate, what restrictions you may have, etc.

They are pleased to offer a solution for these teams! Teams who would like to pay their registration fee before the end of their fiscal year will need to get in touch with our finance team at ar@firstinspires.orgFIRST ® finance will then work with the team to provide them with what may be needed in order to send payment.
